Es sind angenehme 25 Grad und ein bekannter Geruch beginnt mich zu umh\u00fcllen als ich die Gangway hinuntergehe: ein herrliches Gemisch aus tropisch, feuchter Luft und Holzkohlenfeuer. Irgendwo gurrt eine Taube. Kurz bevor ich den ersten Fuss auf das von rotem Staub bedeckte Rollfeld setze, stoppt uns das Sicherheitspersonal, wir warten. Dann geht es weiter und eine freundliche Flughafenangestellte begr\u00fc\u00dft mich: \u201eBonne arriv\u00e9e, Madame\u201c \u201eMerci\u201c, l\u00e4chele ich zur\u00fcck und f\u00fchle mich willkommen. Neugierig lasse ich meinen Blick \u00fcber das Feld schweifen, es sieht alles ruhig aus. Fr\u00fcher mussten die Passagiere die paar hundert Meter bis zum Terminal des Flughafens \u201eThomas Sankara\u201c in Ouagadougou zu Fu\u00df gehen, heute nimmt uns ein moderner Bus auf.<\/p>\n<h2>Entspannte Kontrollen<\/h2>\n<p>Im Flughafengeb\u00e4ude surrt eine Armada an Ventilatoren: Die erste Kontrolle \u00fcbernimmt eine Dame von der Gesundheitsbeh\u00f6rde im wei\u00dfen Kittel. Sie pr\u00fcft meinen Impfausweis auf die obligatorischen drei Covid-Impfungen. Die f\u00fcr die Einreise ebenfalls vorgeschriebene Gelbfieber-Impfung scheint sie nicht zu interessieren. Aus dem Augenwinkel sehe ich wie eine Gruppe russischer M\u00e4nner aus der Warteschlange gezogen wird und gesondert abgefertigt wird. Einige tragen T-Shirts mit Kampfhubschraubern. Mittlerweile bewegt sich die Passagierschlange auf eine Reihe Polizisten zu, die die P\u00e4sse in Augenschein nehmen. Danach dr\u00e4ngen wir uns um einen Stehtisch, um das Einreisedokument auszuf\u00fcllen. Ein Mann spricht mich auf deutsch an, als er meinen Pass sieht, wir unterhalten uns kurz \u00fcber unsere Reiseziele und tauschen Nummern aus. Ein anderer Mann, Kraftfahrer von Beruf, bittet mich um Hilfe beim Ausf\u00fcllen seines Formulars. Das erledige ich gerne und gehe weiter zur Pass und Gesichtskontrolle. Der Polizist raunt mir ein \u201eGute Erholung, Madame\u201c, zu.<\/p>\n<h2>\u201eOn va y arriver, Madame!\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Nun ist der Weg frei zur Gep\u00e4ckausgabe, an der wie gewohnt ein buntes Chaos aus Koffern, in Plastik eingeschwei\u00dften Kartons, und gl\u00e4nzenden Quadern aus schwarzem Klebeband herrscht. Mein Gep\u00e4ck ist nach ein paar Minuten eingesammelt, nun noch die Sicherheits- und Zollkontrolle am Ausgang. Wer Pech hat, darf hier seine Koffer \u00f6ffnen und komplett durchsuchen lassen. Ich habe Gl\u00fcck, der Herr am Checkpoint winkt mich durch. Am Ausgang wartet mein Taxifahrer, Monsieur Kabor\u00e9, auf mich. Sein gr\u00fcner Mercedes ist in ganz gutem Zustand, wie ich finde. Er l\u00e4sst mich allerdings gleich wissen, dass er mit meiner fein s\u00e4uberlich ausgedruckten Google-Maps Beschreibung gar nichts anfangen kann. Ob ich nicht jemanden anrufen k\u00f6nne, der den Weg beschreiben kann. Ich habe zwar die Nummer der Nichte meiner Vermieterin, das Handy ist allerdings noch nicht aufgeladen. Kein Problem f\u00fcr M. Kabor\u00e9: Er h\u00e4lt neben zwei jungen M\u00e4nnern, die bei einem kleinen Verschlag mit einem \u201eOrange\u201c-Schild (einer der hiesigen Mobilfunkanbieter) sitzen. \u201eDie haben 24 h ge\u00f6ffnet\u201c, wei\u00df mein Fahrer. Ich lasse mein Handy mit 2.000 CFA aufladen und klingele Hortense aus dem Schlaf. Nach einigen Schleifen und Kehrtwenden und der Beteuerung von M. Kabor\u00e9, dass wir auf jeden Fall ankommen werden, erreichen wir unser Ziel. Amatou und Hortense begr\u00fc\u00dfen mich und schleppen meine Koffer in den ersten Stock. It is a pleasant 25 degrees and a familiar smell envelops me as I walk down the gangway: a delightful mixture of tropical, humid air and charcoal fire. Somewhere a pigeon is cooing. Just before I set foot on the tarmac covered in red dust, the security personnel stops us and we wait. Then we move on and a friendly airport employee greets me: &#8222;Bonne arriv\u00e9e, Madame&#8220; &#8222;Merci&#8220;, I smile back and feel welcome. Curiously, I let my eyes wander over the field, it all looks quiet. In the past, passengers had to walk the few hundred metres to the terminal of the &#8222;Thomas Sankara&#8220; airport in Ouagadougou, but today a modern bus takes us in.<\/p>\n<h2>Relaxed controls<\/h2>\n<p>An armada of fans hums in the airport building. The first check is carried out by a lady from the health authority in a white coat. She checks my vaccination card for the obligatory three Covid vaccinations. She doesn&#8217;t seem to be interested in the yellow fever vaccination, which is also required for entry. Out of the corner of my eye I see a group of Russian men being pulled out of the queue and processed separately. Some of them are wearing T-shirts with helicopters. Meanwhile, the queue of passengers moves towards a row of policemen who inspect the passports. Then we crowd around a high table to fill out the entry document. A man speaks to me in German when he sees my passport, we chat briefly about our destinations and exchange numbers. Another man, a driver by profession, asks me to help him fill out his form. I gladly do so and proceed to the passport and face check. The policeman murmurs to me, &#8222;Have a good rest, Madame&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8222;On va y arriver, Madame!&#8220;<\/h2>\n<p>Now the way is clear to baggage claim, where, as usual, there is a colourful chaos of suitcases, boxes shrink-wrapped in plastic, and shiny cubes that seem to entirely consist of black tape. After a few minutes, my luggage is collected and now I have to go through security and customs at the exit. If you&#8217;re unlucky, you can have your suitcases opened and completely searched. I am lucky, the gentleman at the checkpoint waves me through. My taxi driver, Monsieur Kabor\u00e9, is waiting for me at the exit. His green Mercedes is in good condition, I think. He lets me know straight away, however, that he can&#8217;t do anything with my neatly printed out Google Maps description. Couldn&#8217;t I call someone who could explain the way? I have the number of my landlady&#8217;s niece, but my mobile phone is not yet charged. No problem for M. Kabor\u00e9: he stops next to two young men sitting near a small shack with an &#8222;Orange&#8220; sign (one of the local mobile phone providers). &#8222;They&#8217;re open 24 hours,&#8220; my driver knows. I have my mobile phone charged with 2,000 CFA and ring Hortense from her sleep. After a few loops and U-turns and M. Kabor\u00e9&#8217;s reassurance that we will definitely arrive, we reach our destination. Amatou and Hortense greet me and drag my suitcases up to the first floor. Curieuse, je laisse mon regard errer sur le terrain, tout semble calme. Autrefois, les passagers devaient parcourir \u00e0 pied les quelques centaines de m\u00e8tres qui les s\u00e9paraient du terminal de l&#8217;a\u00e9roport &#8222;Thomas Sankara&#8220; de Ouagadougou, aujourd&#8217;hui, c&#8217;est un bus moderne qui nous accueille.<\/p>\n<h2>Des contr\u00f4les d\u00e9tendus<\/h2>\n<p>Dans l&#8217;a\u00e9rogare, une armada de ventilateurs ronronne: le premier contr\u00f4le est effectu\u00e9 par une dame du service de sant\u00e9 en blouse blanche. Elle v\u00e9rifie que mon carnet de vaccination contient bien les trois vaccins Covid obligatoires. Elle ne semble pas s&#8217;int\u00e9resser au vaccin contre la fi\u00e8vre jaune, \u00e9galement obligatoire pour entrer dans le pays. Du coin de l&#8217;\u0153il, je vois un groupe d&#8217;hommes russes se faire sortir de la file d&#8217;attente et \u00eatre trait\u00e9s \u00e0 part.
